- Look at the crack from the side, against the light. If it sits on a raised layer with an edge, that's the protector.
- Run a fingernail from the frame onto the glass. You'll feel the step of a protector.
- Lift one corner gently with a fingernail. If the crack lifts with the layer, it was the protector.
If the screen underneath is clean

If the crack is still there after the protector comes off
